What are my chance of getting accepted to Carnegie Mellon University?

My best friend has helped convince me to try to apply to Carnegie cuz she knows it my dream school, just like i convinced her to apply to her dream school(Yale). Im almost done and thinking about applying under Early Decision. I would like to know what are my chances of getting accepted based on how I've done in high school. Ive already gotten a few acceptances from some backups like Cal Poly Pomona and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. I'm hoping for the school of Computer Science, but I'll be happy with CIT engineering school or as a last option with history.

Overall weighted GPA: 3.6-3.8 (my transcript says 3.6 but is subject to change because i got a B and a C changed to A's for AP US History)

Unweighted GPA:3.2 (also subject to change for reason above, plus its an estimate because the transcripts from my school doesnt give an exact GPA)

Class Rank: 24 of 488 (also subject to change from previous reason; and transcipt has 3 different class ranks for some reason but this is the main one)

Testing:

SAT: CR 590, Math 590, Writing 480

SAT II: Math lvl 2 520, Physics 550, US History 660

ACT: composite 25

AP Testing: AP English Lang 3, AP World History 4, AP US History 5

I'm taking the SAT II's again in Dec.

Freshman Year: 4.0

Sophmore year: 3.6(approx; got A's in chem, Algebra 2, and AP world history, and B's for English 2 Honors. But my GPA is brought down by Spanish from a C and a D)

Junior year:slighly better but about a 3.66-3.8 or higher with the grade change to AP US history.

Classes taken: AP English Lang: C both semesters (but counts as a B with AP credit at my school)

AP US History: A for both semesters with grade change.

Honors Pre-Cal: A both semesters

Honors Physics: a B for 1st semester and an A for 2nd.

Multimedia Tech(elective for school doesnt count for much): A both semesters

1semester of Health(also not important); the other semester was to make up Spanish but still didnt do to well so it once again brought down my GPA.

Current Senior scedule:

AP Calculus

AP English Literature

AP Bio

AP Chem

Economics CP for 1st semester and AP Government for 2nd semester

Art 1

Spanish 2

As for extracurricular/club/volunteer stuff I dont got much because other factors(mainly my family interfered in 9,10, and most of 11th grade so I couldn't do much).

Upward Bound: 9-12 (about 4-5 hrs per week) for about 7-8 months in the academic year and a residential program at Pitzer college that last 5 weeks, which i have attended for 3 summers.

LLULAC(mentorship program in which I am both a tutor and mentor for a few 5th graders): 11-12 About 1-1.5 hrs per week depending on when the kids have to leave. Total hrs not yet known, but during the summer I was able to volunteer 6hrs for 3 days of the week for 3-4 weeks, plus a few field trips with mentees. (Could have have more hrs during the summer but I volunteered during Senior internship of residential program, otherwise the rest of the time im on Pitzer campus).

Key Club: joined this year

National Honors Society: also this year

I've never had trouble with my math or science classes always getting A there with only one B. History Ive been alright at. My main issue has always been with languages particularly Spanish but English has also given me some trouble mainly in writing though(although it is my second language, with Spanish as my first but pretty much forgotten). In my current classes I have a B in everything but an A for AP Lit(kinda weird though, guess its the new teacher) and AP Chem.

I really want to major in computer science but im alright if I can get into the CIT school, and i figure that since my math and science is solid and my major doesn't require foreign language or English that much It might be penalized as badly if say I applied for a different major.

So what do you figure are my chance of getting accepted at Carnegie, with the School of Computer Science(1st choice), CIT (engineering 2nd choice), or HSS (History final choice)?????

I would appreciate anyones thought on what my chances are, especially any Carnegie alumni, current CMU students, or admissions people. Thnx in advance.

P.S. If you apply under Early Decision so the Letters of Recommendation/Teacher Evaluation have to be mailed/sent before the Dec. 1 deadline? What are my chance of getting accepted to Carnegie Mellon University?
I'm sorry but I have bad news. I do not believe that acceptance is at all likely and I also do not believe that this university is a good ';fit';. Last year its 25th percentile score for accepted students on the first two parts of the SAT was 1290 according to the US mews 2009 college edition.

Of course 25% of the admittees had scores below 1290. However, I strongly believe that entering a university in the bottom quarter of the class in SAT scores is a needless handicap, particularly in the fields which interest you. This impression is confirmed by the relatively low

SAT II scores in math and physics and the ACT score which is comparatively lower than the SAT score.

I know from personal experience at two undergraduate universities that it is better to earn mostly A grades at a ';less prestigious'; school than lower grades at a ';more prestigious'; one. I went from an unranked undergraduate school where I had a virtually straight A record to a top ten graduate school. I am certain that I would have had difficulty maintaining even a B average as an undergraduate at the university where I earned my graduate degree in a different field and to which program I would never have been admitted with a B average from any university.

CPSLO is the gem of the CSU system and you should receive an excellent education there. On a side note, if you are used to living in California as I am, you will probably not like winters in Pennsylvania. Your friend had an interesting suggestion for you, but if I were in your shoes, I would choose CPSLO even if I were admitted to C-M. If you are a California resident, you will also save thousands of dollars over the next four years.

Best wishes. What are my chance of getting accepted to Carnegie Mellon University?
YOU CAN DO IT!! JUST RIGHT A KILLER ESSAY THAT MAKES YOU STAND OUT!
I'd say your chances are not good because your SAT scores are pretty low for Carnegie Mellon. Plus computer science is one of the hot majors there, so getting into that major will be difficult. My son applied to the computer science program at Carnegie Mellon -- 3.4 GPA with nearly all honors courses, SAT I scores in the 700's, SAT II scores in the high 600's to mid-700's, 7 AP courses with 4s or 5s on the exams, leadership in his extracurriculars. He was not admitted. It's a tough school and a tough program to get into.
