How do i contest my grade...?

i just received my grade for one of my classes (B) and i really need to contest it. id gotten an A- on my midterm (30% of the final grade) but other than that, my gsi (graduate student instructor) had not finished grading our section (10%) and essay (15%) grades in time to let us know before winter break. taking into account the final exam (45%), i really dont know the distribution of points lost that brought me down to a B.

the thing is, my gsi was extremely arbitrary in grading our midterms. he would hardly ever give us the full points, but would rather take off random 0.25-0.5 points off. these added up so i wouldnt be surprised if this happened on the final as well. so instead of talking to my gsi about my grade im planning to go directly to the professor. im worried, she knows her material VERY well so theres no hope of bs-ing anything but she seems nice so im hoping that shell agree that taking points off arbitrarily was not good protocol.

how should i approach her? im going to have to wait until i go back to school and see how my things were graded but then how should i bring this up to her? and whats the best way to convince the professor to change my grade.

please!!! i really need for this to work. this has really hurt my gpa and im running out of time before i have to apply for law school. How do i contest my grade...?
don't waste your time if this is some literature class, where evaluation can never be objective. if it's a science class, you can prove that your answers are correct and satisfy the question asked. How do i contest my grade...?
You seriously want to contest a B?

How about quit taking yourself so seriously.
You can start by reading your syllabus and seeing if there are objectives on the tests that perhaps you didn't meet. For example, my art history instructor was a fanatic for spelling. If you answered Van Gogh but spelled it wrong, she deducted 1/4 point. Second, you could open a case and contest the grade within the department. I would caution against this because at my school, a group of professors look at your test and the materials assigned for the test and they grade your paper. They will also take into consideration how well all of the other students in the class did on the paper and if someone got a higher grade than you, your work would be compared to theirs. If they grade you lower than the initial grade, that is the grade you are stuck with. Also, consider this is the department you will be doing most of your studies in, tread carefully. You can talk to the professor but you don't want to come off sounding like you want a higher grade given to you, you have to approach it with you feel you earned a better grade than you received. I had a class this semester where a girl received an A- on a term paper that was 25% of our grade and she had a breakdown in class and opened a case and the whole nine yards. The committee found she had plagairized portions of her paper, they nailed her on grammar and spelling and she ended up with an F on that particular paper. I'm sure she wishes she would have left well enough alone, but she thought she deserved a better grade. Good luck with whatever you decide to do,
