How do I explain the downturn in my grades?

Question: How do I explain the downturn in my grades?

Question Details: I applied to UVA early decision this year. After I submitted my mid-year grade report, I received this letter form the UVA Dean of Admission: Ms. Campbell, I have just reviewed your mid-year grades and am distressed to see that your academic performance took a significant downturn. We are quite concerned about this change in your past performance and your admission to the University is in jeopardy unless I receive a satisfactory explanation from you. Please write to me as soon as possible with an explanation for this change in your grades. Sincerely, John A. Blackburn I know nobody knows my circumstances, but how should I approach this? I'm extremely worried at this point.

ThanksHow do I explain the downturn in my grades?
I have been so excited about going to your University that I have been spending to much time telling everyone the good news. Everyone knows now so Ill get back to the booksHow do I explain the downturn in my grades?
well, given that we dont know the circumstances, the truth is always the best. Honesty is the best Policy. Even if the reason is embarrassing, I bet they will understand. If you lie, you could jeapordize your whole college career! Just be honest. Good Luck!!
Say you were in rehab.
Well, what is the reason? If you have a good one, let her know. You can fake your way through and say your great aunt Gerttie died, and you are now in counseling to deal with the guilt.... but the question really is valid. She (Campbell) doesn't want you to come to school only to bomb.
