I'm filing out job application forms for a teaching position and keep seeing this question pop up Have you ever resigned in lieu of being non-reelected or dismissed by a school district? This is a yes to for me. In January I was told by my new principal that he was not reelecting me for rehire next year. He believed that I was a good teacher. I was shocked by this because I changed grade leveles went from 2nd to 5th grade a month into the school year for him because he said thats what team players do. I had no problems with this guy until I decided to make a unit on gingerbread houses around christmas. I was one for three teachers doing this but the only one making it curriculum based. I fought for my right to do it which upset him and he desided to repremand me for being insubbordinate. Nothing happened to the other teachers. I told him I felt that he was harrassing me things were dropped and now I'm not being rehired. What kind of statement do I include to answer this question. I am really torn by what you should say, I believe in the truth, and the truth is that I don't see anything on your question that indicates that any of this went on your permanent record. It was an in house problem (I had one, too) and had nothing to do with the quality of teacher you are. Most school districts check with the main Office and base their hiring on what's in your employee folder. Any assessments will be in there and as you said he said you were a good teacher and you are finishing out the school year. Male teachers are really needed you should have no problem. OK this is tricky. You were not dismissed by the DISTRICT. You were just dismissed by the principal for his school. You cannot lie; all you can do is hope for the opportunity for an explanation. I would explain this as the fact that you wanted to add a practical, mathematics-based exercise to your curriculum and that you and the principal ended up in a major disagreement over it. You did what you thought was best for your students but ultimately the principal didn't agree. It was so important to the principal that you were not offered a return spot.
what you should do is contact your UNION REP!!! you do have one right? they are there to help you with whatever you may need.
