Not mixing synthetic and mineral is a myth. In fact some motor oil brands are specifically that, a blend of synthetic and mineral. See Mobil 1 webpages at http://www.mobil.com/Australia-English/L that explains the different types of oil base.

';Semi-Synthetics

Semi-Synthetics use base stocks comprising conventional or hydroprocessed base oil in combination with severely hydroprocessed or synthetic (PAO) basestocks. The proportion of severely hydroprocessed or synthetic basestocks in semi-synthetic oil is a closely guarded secret, but is usually between 10% and 25%.How to change from mono-grade (eg SAE 40) oil to multi-grade oil (eg 15W40) in a diesel generator?
Best results are obtained by doing the switch over at a regular oil change.

You can mix the oils without any problems.

Please be advised that you can NOT mix synthetic oils and mineral oils. This ruins your engine.
