“The walk to high school” they called it, and as I walked across the stage last June at my eighth grade graduation I didn’t know what was in store for me. That long walk was directing me into my new phase in life. In that phase, I learned so much. Like how annoying it is when people just stop in the hall ways to talk, and when I realized that teachers won’t pass you for your own social benefit. The most important one though, was that I learned that when school starts, friends might not be the same when that school year ends.
Everyday I have the same schedule, and every day on my way to Algebra, I get stuck in the traffic. Just like in real life on the road, there are road blocks, and even though in the halls there are no traffic accidents, but there are the ever-so infamous people who stop in the middle of the hall and talk. This is by far one of the most annoying things a person can do. Not only do people scowl at these people as they walk by, but a lot of times they get picked on or other things. For your own sanity and you classmates sanity, don’t stop to talk in the halls! Why people can’t wait till after class I don’t know.
In elementary school and in middle school, teachers always seem to pass students who are disruptive and who don’t do that work. When those kids get to High School, they will be in a shock because in High School, if the work isn’t done, you’ll stay in that grade and class, till the work is done. Classes next year for the kids who failed will be filled with under classmen. Also when you’re older, the freshmen seem to be even more obnoxious, and being in a class with them would be terrible. Its not that hard to do work, just pay attention, and maybe your classes wont be filled with the fish’s we call freshmen.
Friends are irreplaceable, and they can influence who you’re going to be. In middle school friends are very much alike, but in High School, things change, and sometimes they change overnight. It’s not preventable, and you’ll find yourself changing. Some friends may move, some may follow a totally different crowd, some may ruin there lives. Who knows, maybe you’re the friend who may change. Changing is a part of life, and it may bring hardships, and tears, but it will bring more friends, smiles and wonderful memories that will never change.
High School life begins once you receive that diploma. It’s an ever popular time in a teenage life. It will be a change, and continue to change thru out your years, but its all worth it. Talking in the halls is a big No-No, and doing your work is a must if you want to move up with your friends to the next grade. Change is ineluctable, but it’s a tremendous thing all the same. Life in High School isn’t hard at all; it just takes some advice and some listening. How am i graded if i change schools half way threw the school semester?
i am thinking about moving.. and it is halfway threw my grade 11 second semester. if i did change, how will i get marks if i change now? i mean because the new school has nothing to mark and such,. do they keep the same grade as i am getting now?

i think that they would/ it is averaged together in the end most likely. it might be up to the teacher i dunno how the sem av goes. if no grades come in ontime then maybe the new school will only grade you on what you do do

Ethical question about a grade I did not deserve?
I got an A in a course.
And based on my mid term and my what I think I got on my final I don't see how I could higher than a B. In fact I was praying to get by with a C+.
I am not complaining of course, but if it was the reverse I would be out side my professors door telling her she should give me a grade change.
I have a strong feeling it is an error.
I really don't think I am going to tell her about it, but does anyone think I should, I mean isn't that the ethical thing to do. Would anyone else do that?Ethical question about a grade I did not deserve?
I'm a teacher so I'm a bit embarrased by saying this but.....
1. If it is a college class then keep your mouth shut. Take the higher grade, doubt he/she will notice. Bump up your GPA
Console yourself by saying that you pay enough for your education and there will be a class down the line that you worked your butt off but a teacher won't factor that in.
2. If you are in high school, again don't say anything but use it as a reminder that if you have this teacher again, you need to work your butt off so that they don't notice. Chances are if you see this teacher again and they know you, they could change it. I've changed report cards before because the next trimester, I noticed the mistake and I've changed it but typically won't always do that because I don't want to admit to a student and parent that there was a mistake - too much hassle.Ethical question about a grade I did not deserve?

I would first check your grade on the final, and ask for a breakdown of how much the final, midterm, etc is worth, then calculate the final grade for the course yourself. If it isn't an A, you could report it, but if it's close (say a B+) then I'd say let it ride. The professor could be scaling based on other students.

I would tell her. If it is truly the grade you got, congratulations. I did that this year. Report Cards were being sent home in a week and I checked online and had a C, which I had never known about before then. I miraculously got an A on my report card. It turns out that she didn't end up entering grade until the day before they sent out report cards! But I understand what you're saying, and finals do count as a large part of your grade. I would ask her to double check the grade and if it's wrong, take the grade you shouldv'e got because that's the grade that you deserve. It's bad to lie and cheat about these kinds of things. Rather than just guessing, why not sit down and calculate your grade (that is if you've kept every grade so far)...then you can see where you stand. Wait till you get that final back too...maybe you aced it! Its also possible that she put more weight on certain assignments you did good at...for example the final was 50% off the grade, mid terms 25% and other assignments 25%. If you did good on the final it would make up for the midterm.

I would go ask the professor to explain how you got the grade. There may have been some other grading factors she used to help your grade. Plus your A may have been a low one.
You may end up with a lower grade, but I doubt it, because she won't want to go to the trouble of changing it even if she made a mistake. However, it's always good to do the right thing. There are plenty of people who would disagree with my advice to you, but I have found that living an ethical life will bring you far more success and respect (especially self-respect) than in lying and cheating your way through life.
When faced with tough decisions in life (doing right is often difficult), ask yourself if your actions/decisions would cause embarassment and shame for you if printed on the front page of a newspaper. I think that you are just underestimating your self and you deserve that A!
If grading is on a curve and everyone else bombed the final, you very well could have the highest cumulative score from both tests. Congrats on your A.
You may be under estimating your mid-term. Or you could be accurately judging the quality, but when compared to others who took the mid-term, you might have come across looking great! Some professors grade on a curve and if most people didn't do as well as you did, you might have gotten bumped up to the higher grade.
Just count it as a blessing and let it go.
It sounds like unlike most young people on this board asking questions you have some sound moral structure.
If I were you I'd bring it up to the teacher. Odds are the teacher had a reason for the grade you got. Either way you'll walk away with a clear conscious.

There have been a few times that I have gotten a higher grade than I was expecting and it was usually because the teacher ended up putting some kind of curve on the grade because the class average was low. I know it would be the right thing to do to tell your teacher that you think your grade was a mistake, but I doubt that she would expect you to.

I think your plan is great, if you haven't already talked to your mom, i'm sure she'll understand. just say '; mom, I really would like to go to this school, my two best friends are going there and i don't want to loose them! My grades won't change and neither will my classes, please mom :(?'; Tell her some more reasons why you would like to switch schools, tell her how much it will cost, and that you will have a better time there. Who can I complain to about my college professor's grading system?
I would like to write a letter to somebody (besides the professor) about this guy's ';grading'; system, but I don't know who to complain to.
This professor never graded any assignment. I've asked around, and it wasn't just me - no one in any of his classes ever received any grades. He just grades everything at the end of the semester and does not hand out grade sheets or post grades online. There is absolutely no communication from him about how a student is doing. Even when asked directly by a student, he does not tell them their grade (he says he ';doesn't know';).
I think this ';grading system'; is incredibly unfair. Who can I write a letter about it letter to? (BTW I am not trying to have my grade changed; I just want somebody to realize what this professor is doing.)Who can I complain to about my college professor's grading system?

I would actually talk to the professor first. Ask him why he does this and explain that you think it's unfair because not getting graded assignments back makes it difficult for students to track their own progress in the class. Make sure he knows you're not complaining about your course grade specifically. See if you can find a neutral third party to come with you to the meeting, like a friend who wasn't in the class, a professor your trust, a tutor, etc. Basically just someone who can be there as a witness to how the conversation goes and can back you up if you need to escalate, but at the same time someone who will be fair to both you and the professor and not make one of you out to be a screaming bad guy.
If talking to the professor doesn't seem to produce any results (e.g. if he won't listen to your arguments or if he says something like ';I see your point but I'm going to do it like this because it's always worked before and nobody has complained';), your next step is probably to go to the chair of his department. Obviously, if this professor is also the chair, you should skip this step. Again, your third-party witness should go with you. Explain your points to the department chair. If that doesn't produce results, you would probably then go to the dean of students. You could also ask your adviser for advice.
I do suggest that you try to talk to people in person. It makes more of an impression when you carve some time out of your schedule to meet someone in person and discuss an issue, plus you can have a witness with you. If you do write a letter, see if you can get your classmates to sign it and hand it in during your in-person meeting. That way the professor/department chair/etc. know this isn't just a concern you had, but one that was widespread in your class.
Since you did wait so long to complain about this, you might not ever know if it's resolved.
