And based on my mid term and my what I think I got on my final I don't see how I could higher than a B. In fact I was praying to get by with a C+.
I am not complaining of course, but if it was the reverse I would be out side my professors door telling her she should give me a grade change.

I'm a teacher so I'm a bit embarrased by saying this but.....
1. If it is a college class then keep your mouth shut. Take the higher grade, doubt he/she will notice. Bump up your GPA
Console yourself by saying that you pay enough for your education and there will be a class down the line that you worked your butt off but a teacher won't factor that in.
2. If you are in high school, again don't say anything but use it as a reminder that if you have this teacher again, you need to work your butt off so that they don't notice. Chances are if you see this teacher again and they know you, they could change it. I've changed report cards before because the next trimester, I noticed the mistake and I've changed it but typically won't always do that because I don't want to admit to a student and parent that there was a mistake - too much hassle.Ethical question about a grade I did not deserve?

I would first check your grade on the final, and ask for a breakdown of how much the final, midterm, etc is worth, then calculate the final grade for the course yourself. If it isn't an A, you could report it, but if it's close (say a B+) then I'd say let it ride. The professor could be scaling based on other students.

I would tell her. If it is truly the grade you got, congratulations. I did that this year. Report Cards were being sent home in a week and I checked online and had a C, which I had never known about before then. I miraculously got an A on my report card. It turns out that she didn't end up entering grade until the day before they sent out report cards! But I understand what you're saying, and finals do count as a large part of your grade. I would ask her to double check the grade and if it's wrong, take the grade you shouldv'e got because that's the grade that you deserve. It's bad to lie and cheat about these kinds of things. In high school I noticed several answers on a test were marked correct when they were, in fact, wrong. My teacher was so pleased with my integrity she let me keep the good grade I had!
Rather than just guessing, why not sit down and calculate your grade (that is if you've kept every grade so far)...then you can see where you stand. Wait till you get that final back too...maybe you aced it! Its also possible that she put more weight on certain assignments you did good at...for example the final was 50% off the grade, mid terms 25% and other assignments 25%. If you did good on the final it would make up for the midterm.
Actually it could be completely fair. Most of the time the mid term grade isn't actually 50% of all your work. For most classes, you spend much of the early part of the course learning things, and more of the later part of the course testing over what you know, so for most teachers, the mid term grade only accounts for about 25% to 30% of what your grade is based on, so the remaining 75% comes after the mid term is sent out.

Ethical question about a grade I did not deserve?
I got an A in a course.

I would go ask the professor to explain how you got the grade. There may have been some other grading factors she used to help your grade. Plus your A may have been a low one.
You may end up with a lower grade, but I doubt it, because she won't want to go to the trouble of changing it even if she made a mistake. However, it's always good to do the right thing. There are plenty of people who would disagree with my advice to you, but I have found that living an ethical life will bring you far more success and respect (especially self-respect) than in lying and cheating your way through life.
When faced with tough decisions in life (doing right is often difficult), ask yourself if your actions/decisions would cause embarassment and shame for you if printed on the front page of a newspaper. I think that you are just underestimating your self and you deserve that A!
If grading is on a curve and everyone else bombed the final, you very well could have the highest cumulative score from both tests. Congrats on your A.
You may be under estimating your mid-term. Or you could be accurately judging the quality, but when compared to others who took the mid-term, you might have come across looking great! Some professors grade on a curve and if most people didn't do as well as you did, you might have gotten bumped up to the higher grade.
Just count it as a blessing and let it go.

If I were you I'd bring it up to the teacher. Odds are the teacher had a reason for the grade you got. Either way you'll walk away with a clear conscious.

I think your plan is great, if you haven't already talked to your mom, i'm sure she'll understand. just say '; mom, I really would like to go to this school, my two best friends are going there and i don't want to loose them! My grades won't change and neither will my classes, please mom :(?'; Tell her some more reasons why you would like to switch schools, tell her how much it will cost, and that you will have a better time there. Who can I complain to about my college professor's grading system?
I would like to write a letter to somebody (besides the professor) about this guy's ';grading'; system, but I don't know who to complain to.
This professor never graded any assignment. I've asked around, and it wasn't just me - no one in any of his classes ever received any grades. He just grades everything at the end of the semester and does not hand out grade sheets or post grades online. There is absolutely no communication from him about how a student is doing. Even when asked directly by a student, he does not tell them their grade (he says he ';doesn't know';).
I think this ';grading system'; is incredibly unfair. Who can I write a letter about it letter to? (BTW I am not trying to have my grade changed; I just want somebody to realize what this professor is doing.)Who can I complain to about my college professor's grading system?
That's bizarre.
I would actually talk to the professor first. Ask him why he does this and explain that you think it's unfair because not getting graded assignments back makes it difficult for students to track their own progress in the class. Make sure he knows you're not complaining about your course grade specifically. See if you can find a neutral third party to come with you to the meeting, like a friend who wasn't in the class, a professor your trust, a tutor, etc. Basically just someone who can be there as a witness to how the conversation goes and can back you up if you need to escalate, but at the same time someone who will be fair to both you and the professor and not make one of you out to be a screaming bad guy.
If talking to the professor doesn't seem to produce any results (e.g. if he won't listen to your arguments or if he says something like ';I see your point but I'm going to do it like this because it's always worked before and nobody has complained';), your next step is probably to go to the chair of his department. Obviously, if this professor is also the chair, you should skip this step. Again, your third-party witness should go with you. Explain your points to the department chair. If that doesn't produce results, you would probably then go to the dean of students. You could also ask your adviser for advice.
I do suggest that you try to talk to people in person. It makes more of an impression when you carve some time out of your schedule to meet someone in person and discuss an issue, plus you can have a witness with you. If you do write a letter, see if you can get your classmates to sign it and hand it in during your in-person meeting. That way the professor/department chair/etc. know this isn't just a concern you had, but one that was widespread in your class.
Since you did wait so long to complain about this, you might not ever know if it's resolved. I used to study during commercials of TV shows, or during ';somewhat boring'; tv shows. Needed to be something entertaining enough I would watch, but not so entertaining that was was glued to the TV. USFL (United States Football League) was great for that. Of course, this was in the 80's and we couldn't TiVo stuff and jump through commercials as easily as you can now.
but yes - study in short bursts.

ok i'm really outgoing and i'm like CRAZY around my friends,
but other times, like in class, or a group event, or in a speech...or like an assembly or show, i never find the courage to participate in disscussions and volunteer. srsly i really need to change. my grade in participating in class discussions is really bad...and when i start participating, i want people to actually remember me.
i want my personality to be attractive! like a really fun person!

If you know the answer to a question - answer it. It doesn't matter what other people think, only what you think. The more you actually try to participate, the more normal it will feel to you. It is very normal to be nervous and scared to speak up in front of people. You just have to screw up your nerve and do it. Volunteer at a senior center or something else that you are really good at or enjoy doing. Don't worry about sounding stupid or being nervous. Hope this helps you. I took a debate class, I really liked it and learned how to speak up for myself in it.

Mostly not a good idea. People who get caught doing this get into a lot of trouble. If you are thinking of being employed in the future, you might not want to have to tell future employers about a felony.

HELP!!! How do I hide my report card??? :(?
I'm 13, and I just got my 2/4 marking period report card. My parents (strict asian parents) are REALLY strict about my grades, ESPECIALLY reading and math. It was a friday, and i was very anxious to see the envelope of joy/doom we call report cards. To my dissapointment, i got a 70...on READING!!! I asked my very good friend Sean on the bus what i should do, because he's successfully hidden some of his cards before. Do I have a valid case to get my grade changed?
I just finished my first year of college recently found out my final grades in my classes, one of which I was very surprised. I asked my professor for that class what my percentage actually was for the class (since they only say letter grades) and she told me it was a 69.5%. I was mortified, after talking to her about how I think .5 points is not much at all, and that I think I deserved a 70.0%, she informed me that the labs (week long assignments which ranged from 35-175 points each) were weighted to all be the same amount of points and equal to be 50% of the final grade. I looked at the syllabus for the course and there was absolutely no mention of weighting the labs (trust me, I looked at it like 10 times), so naturally, I felt very upset. I decided to check what my grade would be if the labs weren't weighted and I would have gotten a 74.3%. She refused to give me a 70% because she said I didn't earn it, but that I earned a D (my school has no D+ or D-, just D, its stupid I know). I asked about 5 other people in my class if they knew about the weighting on the labs and they said that they had no clue. What makes it even more confusing is that for each lab assignment, it would say how much each lab was ';worth'; (not the weighted amount), and we have had labs as low as 35 points so I wouldn't worry as much on doing it perfectly so I would get a little less on it, but when the grade is amplified, it counts for a lot more points lost. Even if I didn't have my argument to get my grade changed, I have a freaking 69.5! .5 points isn't gonna kill anyone, but yet she makes it a huge deal, like it somehow affects her more than me when its MY grade. One of the reasons my schools Academic Appeals Committee it states that a grade may need to be changed is if a professor did not address something that affects the students grade verbally or in writing (on our syllabus). I received an F in one of my classes this semester (got A's in my other classes). I knew it had to be an error and had my professor go to the campus and check his records. For the last couple months ive been feeling really weird. It's so hard to explain. Im not even sure i know how i feel. I am a senior in high school. I have gone through 3 years with awesome grades. mostly a's and soem b's here and there. This year has been diff. My grades have dropped. My college stuff isnt done yet and deadlines are approaching. I have had 3 girlfriends this school year one of which i cheated on. I'm not an asshole. I still dont know why i did it. The girl im with now is awesome. Im happy when im with her. But when im alone im so sad. I feel so anxious all the time. I get the butterflys everynight and feel nervous. I get headaches daily. I have had a stomach ache for the past week that hasn't stopped yet. Ive started smoking cigars this year with friends. Not alot. every now and then. Also drinking occasionally. and tried weed for the first time last week. I feel like i fake being happy. all my friends love me. parents and co workers. my boss. they all think im the sweetest person in the world.. My family think im lazy... and i dont get along with my parents at all. i cant talk to them. i cant wait to leave and go to college.... but idk if i will even get in one. I feel like i have depression and anxiety... the only person ive told is my girlfriend who agreed not to tell anyone. I dont want to tell my parents. TALKING THROUGH IT! it's best done through a councellor. i even found talking with close relatives and friends a good way to unravel your emotions. seriously i know it sounds silly, but talking about it helps so much. it helps get things of your chest and makes you feel like a huge weight has been lifted off your shoulders. dont ever bottle things inside of you because it can lead to big mental and emotional issues. keep writing poems, write songs, scream at yourself in the mirror, do anything to release your anger that does not involve hurting anyone around you. i find hardcore exercise helps!! go for a run and tell me how good that feels.
if you think you need one, then sometimes a psychatrist is a good option because their opinions, advice and therpaies are valuable to get better

In our university about 70% of the students from last semester physics class filed an appeal about the grade they received because many of them felt that the professor testing formats resulted in about 15% of the class getting a C, 15% getting a D, and 70% getting an F.
Complaints that were made were 1. that questions on exam were much harder than what was assigned from HW, presented in class lectures, or assigned in reading. 2. Exams were made too long for most students to complete in 50 minutes. 3. Professor intentionally made separate questions depending on the one before which basically made it impossible for a student to get the question right even if they understood how to go about doing the steps. 4. Giving little or no partial credit.
Appeals board gave professor a week to give each student a copy of the exams they took that were marked and their grading sheet which includes the points they got for each assignment and their final grade and the professor seems adamant to do it because she feels that the grades deserve to be that way and that the appeals board has no right to challenge it. The students with backing of dean, president, and their advisors are now seeking for a permanent grade change or an administrative withdrawal because they have the copy of the exam question for each exam but still are not provided their graded exams and grade sheets to determine what would be the appropriate way in going about this (whether it be by curve, or reduced scale).What do you think the school board will do?

12 yr son is refusing to do homework and studying. What do you recommend? ?
My son has been a straight student up till about 3rd grade. I believe it was 3rd when I noticed his grades first dropping. But I didn't really react a big deal because it went to A's and B's. I did bring this up to his attention that I had noticed the grade change and he needed to keep at it on the books, or it would be F's before you knew it. I wouldn't even call it fussing really. He seemed to keep it like that for that whole year. 4th grade I noticed C's, B's and A's. I was very concerned then. I started taking noticed in WHAT he was studying...which turned out to be hardly nothing at all...so I would start to ask what kind of test is this, he would say just a quiz...and I started seeing he never had chapter test...so when I started asking about that he started lying oh he doesn't do chapter test but once a month...I didn't buy that...so the next report card time rolled around to talk with the teachers, I brought this up..yeah, I found out he did chapter test every Friday, found out the teacher had Thursdays set out for certain test and Friday was for certain test..and homework (hw) just about every night but Friday...all NEWS to me. This was about when the lying started...I was spanking then for lies, bad grades or he didn't do what he was suppose to do. Of course this did not work, it didn't seem to help. by 6th grade he had a D..So I thought then we needed a communication route. I thought well, since the school hands out a hw book, have the teacher to initial it,making sure he wrote everything down in it RIGHT and I would sign it at the end of the day basically me stating that I have over seen him doing his hw and studying...I figured this was a good thing...yes and no..it helped on the hw issue but not the studying..all he writes in the hw book is to study...so I have to take his word as for WHAT he study's...and of course the D never got better and then he had TWO D's...so I tried to find out what he is supposed to be studying and he would say just these words, which would only be like 5 or 6 words...he never would have chapter test. and I found lies in that too. Now he is in the 7th grade, more lies, no hw, problems getting him to get the teachers to sign the book, supposedly no test and report cards are about to come out again and I know he now will have TWO F's. He could care less. I am racking my brain out on how to get him more interested or can I? I have done spankings, grounding on tv and games, bed early...writing ...do I just step aside now and let him do his own thing, do I still stay on him about his grades, do I stick to grounding or spanking do you have some new ideas? right now counseling is too expensive. I said ok, your not punished, but if I find out your not telling me something or have lied you will be...he stuck to it and I called the teacher which was when I found out that he had screamed at the teacher over a month ago (which I never knew about) and that she told him that she was not signing it (which I never knew about) AND the very next day when he acted as if nothing ever happen he asked her to sign the book she had said no again and decided to appoint a student helper in the class to sign the book for her (which I never knew about) and the teacher said that he had allowed this helper to sign the book for almost the whole month and for some reason the last couple days in a row he didn't want her to and got an attitude about letting the girl sign the book and thats when he came home saying the teacher would sign the book. Even after he came home from school AFTER I had talked to the teacher AFTER my son KNEW I was going to call the teacher. and he knows when I tell he I am gonna call a teacher or when I say I am gonna do something I ALWAYS do it. he came home acting fine like nothing was12 yr son is refusing to do homework and studying. We had the same problem with my stepdaughter. Our school has a program where the kids stay after school for ';intervention'; Bascially a teacher stays there and they work on their assignments (sort of like a study hall). Does your school have anything like this?
We also tried the signing of the agenda book for every teacher and every class...we had the same results as you :(
We tried every punishment possible, grounding, etc...even PAYING her for good grades..nothing motivated her. It was a rough ride and it does get more difficult as they get older.
Finally around 8th grade we made one last ditch effort. We sat down with her and ALL of her teachers and had a conference. All teachers at the same time, my husband me and our daughter. We tried to figure out a plan that would work for her. All of the teachers told her what they expected. My husband then told her ';you are 14 years old and old enough to be responsible for your own studies';. ';you know what you have to do and we expect you to do it';. We basically butt out for about a year. She struggled that year but did turn herself around by about 10th grade.

parenting is not a reactionary concern. Don't wait to see what he does. state your rules. hold to them and dont budge.

I would advise you personally get in contact with each teacher. Meet with them and have them email you his grades and homework each day. Teachers are far more helpful when you are involved as can be. Have conferences occasionally to check on progress and assess what needs to be done. See if the school has any tutoring or academic programs available. Talk to your son's doctor about any possible underlying issues. I wouldn't ground him totally, but not let him do anything once he gets home, except use the toilet, have a snack, and do his schoolwork. When he finishes he can then relax and have certain privledges. Have him pay you a certain amount of money/privledges for each poor grade and reward by returning privledges for each good grade. Make it clear that he ca earn more academic freedom by showing self-discipline.

grade change/dismissal? If so, how difficult was it. I went to college right after high school and didn't do so well my second year - I ended up dropping out. I am now 28 and have recently gone back. The way it went when I was in College was that you could retake two classes and have the grades from the first time through the course stricken from your GPA. It was the matter of filling out a single piece of paper.
It all depends on the school and the teacher. I am a Junior at a University and this past semester my teacher re checked my grades and she did change a grade on her own. Talk to your teacher first and if this do not work you may have to go to the Chancellor's office and file an appeal. But hurry up as schools have a deadline in which you can do this.....
Some rules are made to bent and broken you just have to find the right person who will do it for you.
I know a lot of schools actually have something called ';academic bankruptcy.'; In the case that I know best (through reading an undergraduate handbook not by doing it, mind you), you can essentially have your slate wiped clean if you have been out of school for 5 or more years. In the case with which I am familiar, you are only allowed to do this one time. Obviously, you have to give up any credits that you might have earned and start over from square one, but that might be an option if you failed a majority of your classes, made all D's, or something like that the first time around.

The way it went when I was in College was that you could retake two classes and have the grades from the first time through the course stricken from your GPA. It was the matter of filling out a single piece of paper.
It all depends on the school and the teacher. I am a Junior at a University and this past semester my teacher re checked my grades and she did change a grade on her own. Talk to your teacher first and if this do not work you may have to go to the Chancellor's office and file an appeal. But hurry up as schools have a deadline in which you can do this.....
Some rules are made to bent and broken you just have to find the right person who will do it for you.
I know a lot of schools actually have something called ';academic bankruptcy.'; In the case that I know best (through reading an undergraduate handbook not by doing it, mind you), you can essentially have your slate wiped clean if you have been out of school for 5 or more years. In the case with which I am familiar, you are only allowed to do this one time. Obviously, you have to give up any credits that you might have earned and start over from square one, but that might be an option if you failed a majority of your classes, made all D's, or something like that the first time around.

I mean...When your counsler prints it out and you have a bad grade, cant you simply retype it on the computer and change your grade then send your transcript to the college

If you know you're going to be absent, talk to the teacher before you leave so you can make arrangements for class assignments and homework. You can't expect the teacher just to ';give'; you a good grade because you were absent, even if it was for religious/ethical reasons.
If your absence was an emergency, and you didn't know before, then talk to the teacher when you get back and see if you can do any make-up work.
Teachers don't want any of their students to fail.

First off...your dad should not punch you. EVER! As for your teacher...ask for makeup or extra credit work. They may understand your reasons but if you know ahead of time your not gonna be in class tell the teacher and ask if you can turn it in when you get back? It is hard to believe that a three day absence would cause your grade to be a D unless you were doing D work anyways. In addition what effort did you make in making up eh missed work?
The real problems is for you to buckle downs and do your work which means no talking or calling out in class, volunteering answers, doing your homework conscientiously, taking notes in class and studying.
Even if you were absent for 3 days and couldn't complete your homework, you should have taken the notes before or you should have told your teacher before that about you absence and should talk to him about that you can give the test late. But now that you didn't show responsiblity, yOU can not blame your teacher! But if you didn't know about the test before then you should have asked about that ';is there any test or something coming'; from one of your friends on the phone or should have asked about it from your teacher through the mail. It depends on how responsible you are!!!!
Explain to your teacher about your troubles with your grade. Ask him for an appropriate way to be able to raise your grade. An assignment, extra credit, ect. Obviously he won't raise your grade if you whine i wasn't there i had to go to blah blah blah. Kindly ask for an extra assigment or report on something. i hope you get an A++++++++++++++!!!

First off...your dad should not punch you. EVER! As for your teacher...ask for makeup or extra credit work. It is hard to believe that a three day absence would cause your grade to be a D unless you were doing D work anyways. In addition what effort did you make in making up eh missed work?
The real problems is for you to buckle downs and do your work which means no talking or calling out in class, volunteering answers, doing your homework conscientiously, taking notes in class and studying.
Even if you were absent for 3 days and couldn't complete your homework, you should have taken the notes before or you should have told your teacher before that about you absence and should talk to him about that you can give the test late. But now that you didn't show responsiblity, yOU can not blame your teacher! But if you didn't know about the test before then you should have asked about that ';is there any test or something coming'; from one of your friends on the phone or should have asked about it from your teacher through the mail. It depends on how responsible you are!!!!
Explain to your teacher about your troubles with your grade. Ask him for an appropriate way to be able to raise your grade. An assignment, extra credit, ect. When I was working on my Masters I had undiagnosed Bipolar disorder. After nearly finishing, I decided in a manic rush to leave town and get a job. I thought I could write my thesis while away and finish. Never happened. Now, I have nothing to show for my work, except some good answers in Yahoo Answers Psychology! ;)
Also, my thesis adviser, instead of giving me the customary NP on the thesis, gave me an I. which turned into an F. So my GPA is about a 2.7 instead of a 3.5. Ouch!

Advancements in the field have likely made much of your old coursework outdated. In my department (in which I serve as DGS) for example, I require re-entering students to retake courses if four years have passed. At my university, the Graduate School has a five-year policy, but departments have discretion, and can set their own policies.

If people pick on you just laugh at it or say aw, thanks for noticing/caring, i did it ALL the time and it worked every time and eventually they left me alone. middle school is the hardest time usually for people because everything is just awkward because everyone is going through puberty. lol. it will get better, trust me, dont worry about what others think, its like i always say 'id rather be hated for who i am than loved for who im not', just be yourself, its how you will make your truest friends, the friends that will be there through lifes ups and downs because they like you for YOU and not someone you 'pretend' to be.

Reward yourself when you do something really good. Save your money and buy yourself something you really want when you know you met your goal. Treat yourself and your parent to a movie so they begin to feel the change as well.
Involve yourself in positive activities in school, maybe band choir, soccer, art, computers, baseball, whatever, just so that you can show yourself how wonderful you really are.
God bless you for being so young and thinking so hard about who you are and how you want to take charge of your own world and make it what you want it to be. You will be fine, just don't get discouraged.

How do I convince my teacher to change my grade?
I'm a straight A student and this semester we changed science classes and I literally got the hardest teacher in the school. He even agrees with that statment, as if it's something to be proud of.
90% of the class is failing, and I have a B. (91.6%)
If I could just do some extra credit, I could slide with an A- but he's definetly not the type of teacher to give extra credit.
It's reallyy important to me (and my parents would KILL me if I got a B.)

Is this for the end of the 1st semester. That could be trouble, if your finals are already in. Otherwise, if you are already starting second you have a ton of time to make it up.
Otherwise, talk to him about careers in science. If there an area of science that interests you, something you'd want to learn more about. By doing this, you show a general interest, and so that by doing the extra credit - in something that may interest you, you are not just doing it for the grade. And that may show motivation, and be impressive enough for him to allow it. If you give some ideas, I could give you some on projects, if they are areas I know.
By your previous question - looks like you could easily do something with biology/dermatology. For instance whats good for the skin, such as mineral makeup or organic makeup. You could also do something on chemical engineering or material science, on making the substances that go into makeup - for instance - what do they put in there to make lipstick ';long-lasting'; All of these fields do deep real science, but also make a lot of money.How do I convince my teacher to change my grade?
take the b, whining get's you in with the other 90%
Trying to convince him would be a REALLY bad idea. Never argue with a teacher, they have more power than you think. I'm sorry dear, but just study really hard and produce the best work you can and hope for an A.
Sit down and talk with him and take along some cheese to go with your whine.
just speak to him.. ask him how he grades things.. i was running a B n this professor didn't give hw, papers or extra credit only tests and if we didn't get in between a certain # we couldn't get a higher grade even if it was a few points off so i spoke to him after everyone left and he told me if i got 100 on the final i could get an A n i did it
you can also ask him politely if he can give extra credit or tell him how hard you work and study if there is anything you can do to get an A?
